No I don’t harm any animals or children during my work. I measure electrical brain activity from children, but it doesn’t hurt. The children that visit my lab get to wear a cap similar to a swimming cap on their heads. The cap has small sensors on it that measures the child’s electrical brain activity. You can’t feel anything happening when your brain activity is being measured. Children in many of our experiments take part for several years so they have their brain activity measured lots of times.
Both the parents and children have to agree to take part. Parents have to sign a form to let their children take part, but the children decide whether they want to do it or not. Most children find it fun to see their brain activity and ofcourse we give them a picture of their brain activity to take away with them.
