Hi @georgeteamstarkidweasley
I get a grant from the Government to do my research, but because I am a PhD student I don’t get as much money as a researcher who does it for a job would get. So I do a bit of paid work in the department where I work as well. I sometimes transcribe interviews that have been done with participants (which was useful for IAS as I can type pretty fast now!), and I also have run focus groups which I got paid for.
You don’t have to though, it’s possible to get by on the money you’re given, but I like shoes and synthesizers! So I like a bit of extra money!!!
No, not at all! The research takes up all day but we get paid for it, just like you would do if you were a teacher or a doctor so although we dont get paid loads and loads, we have enough to live and buy things we want without doing another job on the side.
