• Question: Is it possible for depression to be genetic, so say a mother of a child had depression would the child be more likely to have it as well in the future, or is it just an environmental thing?

      Hi @hippieslacker
Great question! And you have a great grasp of what a genetic disease would mean.

There is research in to whether genetics plays a role in depression, and it looks like it might. However, it’s not just one gene, it’s a number of them, and also they interact with the environment, so you’d need to have the genes AND experience certain things in the environment before you’d be more likely to get depression.

Also, some people just get depression for seemingly no reason. There’s a lot that’s not yet understood about depression, and with my research I hope to find out a little more about depression.

      Hope this answers your question.
