I’ve never really thought to pick a favourite planet before, but thinking about it I guess I like the look of Saturn. The Hubble telescope has taken some fantastic photos of Saturn’s rings over the years, but the pictures of the rings side on and the polar auroras are available as part of a video on the Guardian website. I would really recommend watching it.
Like Tim, my favourite planet is Saturn. I knew this when I was younger and very interested in astronomy – I even wrote it in a book about the planets that I had! I think it was because of its rings. Other planets have rings too, I’ve subsequently learned, but they’re not as visible. I just thought Saturn was really beautiful. So thanks for the video, Tim!
But….my favourite ‘celestial body’ in the solar system is Titan, Saturn’s moon, which has a dense atmosphere and liquid on it’s surface, it’s REALLY COOL!
i quite like saturn (its really pretty). I like learning about what the planets were named after. I don’t know why, maybe i just like greek gods or something, because i heard saturn is hades or something and he’s something to do with the underworld which sounds pretty cool. Maybe i just like gods with superpowers.
I know what you mean – it’s cool finding out about the Gods that the planets and moons were named after. That’s why I like Neptune, he was the God of the sea!
we were trying to work out why Uranus was called Uranus and we looked it up on the internet and someone said because its full of smelly gases which was a lot better than the real answer which is its the greek god of the sky. lolxxx XD

That’s fantastic – your ‘alternative’ reason for the name really made me laugh! 😀
