      Hi @mjgjxo
Thanks for this question. There are quite a few effects of smoking too much cannabis.
Firstly, because it’s often smoked with tobacco, there are all the effects that tobacco causes, but often these seem worse in those who smoke cannabis, because joints are smoked without filters. This means more of the harmful products in tobacco get in to your body, because they’re not captured by the filter. So lung cancer, mouth cancer, that sort of thing. Also things like impotence (in men) can be caused from smoking too much tobacco, and therefore cannabis too.

Cannabis also affects your heart rate and blood pressure, and as well as this when you’re high you can feel paranoid or anxious, which can be really unpleasant.

Then there’s the research that I’m working on – does cannabis mean you’re more likely to develop mental health problems like psychosis and depression? At the moment there seems to be some findings that it does, and some that it doesn’t, so I wouldn’t like to say at the moment!

There’s a really great website and phoneline where you can get more information on cannabis and its effects, http://www.talktofrank.com/drugs.aspx?id=172

Also, if I win I’m a Scientist, I’m going to make podcasts explaining the current research in to different drugs, and I’ll definitely make one about cannabis!

Is that something you’d find useful?
