I’m afraid I don’t know the scientific answer to this.
In terms of people, trust is our ability to put faith in the behaviour of someone else. So you might trust a friend to save you a seat on the bus, or you might trust scientists to be honest about the work that they are doing, even if you don’t understand it. You also might trust the Government to make laws that benefit us as citizens of the country.
Is this the kind of thing you mean by what is trust? If not, let me know what you want to know and I’ll try and answer again 🙂

I know what you mean – but everyone is different so I guess this is why some people are more trusting than others. Also, your trust can be altered by the way other people behave; if someone lets you down badly then you can find it harder to trust other people.
