I don’t know why people say this, it’s not true. You don’t get as much of the harmful substances in smoke from second hand smoke, but it’s still really bad for you, and best avoided.
When I was a kid there was a TV presenter called Roy Castle who never smoked, but died of lung cancer. He used to play trumpet in smokey bars, and because to play the trumpet you need to take really deep breath, he inhaled a lot of second hand smoke, and it killed him. Very sad indeed.

I remember hearing about Roy Castle and it’s made me weary about being around smokers too long ever since.
