• Question: why does getting your hair cut make it 'healthier' if your just chopping it off and cutting it up?

      Hi @nhanlon12
      Great question.

It turns out that the only part of your hair that’s ‘living’ is the follicle, or the end that’s attached to your head. In the rest of your hair, the cells no longer function. So you’re not chopping up a part of your body that’s ‘living’, in fact when you cut your hair you’re trimming off the ends which have got damaged by exposure to the air or to water or whatever you’ve been doing, so they often get damaged.

As the cells are not functioning, your hair cannot mend itself, so trimming the ends makes it look healthier.

Also, it makes it look neater too!

Hope this answers your question – do you like having your hair cut?
I didn’t used to – but my best friend is a hairdresser, so now I find it fun because I can go and chat to her and she cuts my hair!
