• Question: Why is it that you chose to spend your spare time on here instead of studying or resting when all the money from it just goes to the site not you?

      Hi @nhanlon12
This question really made me laugh! I have a secret – I’ve been using my work time to do this too.
For me, although I would love to win and use the money to make podcasts, I am not doing this just to win.

I really REALLY enjoy talking about science, and your questions are fascinating. I wish there had been something like this in schools when I was young, so I’m happy to do it.

Do you think it’s worth me spending my spare time on it??? 😉

I can’t say better than what Suzi’s written. I’ve spent all my Saturday afternoon on this! But I’ve done it because I find it really interesting to “talk to you”. As you’re not studying the same things as me, I find that you’ve been asking questions which are really good, and which most scientists wouldn’t even think to ask. It’s great to have to justify yourself sometimes – it makes you think about why you’re doing this and what you want to get out of it.

I also really think that I should be able to explain my work to non-scientists, as I rely on non-scientists for my work – if they didn’t agree to talk to me, I would have no language to analyse – and everyone speaks a language, so everyone knows what it’s like to hear a different accent. So, if you didn’t basically understand what I was studying after I had explained it, I would think I was doing something wrong.

Do you get what I do?
