Yes I do and I am required by law to have had training and do it in a very specific way. It is definitely the worst bit of my job, I do however also eat meat and I can’t really see any moral differences.
Me and georgia strongly agree this is not good and how would you like it if it was you getting killed its unfair and you cant just take away someones life. Just cus they cant talk dont take advantage of it……
considering the fact that i am having an operation under general anesthetic next week i find this appaling. I am a big supporter of animal rights and find it disgraceful you couldn’t see any moral difference with actually killing them, and eating them.
there is a moral difference as you have killed the animals yourself whereas when you eat meat someone else has kiled them!!!! no offence but i find it appaling that you can be so casual about killing an animal!
As you can see from my earlier response it do not do it casually, the animals are treated very well and with a lot of respect. No animals suffer because of my research, I get them from a highly regulated animal house where they are breed for research and looked after with the greatest care. Why is someone else killing them better? An animal had still died. I only use them as it is necessary for my work I think the goal of finding out about how the brain works is more useful than satisfying my own hunger, so when I think of it like that I find eating meat more morally dubious. Did you know that 60 times more animals are killed each year by cats in the uk than are used in animal research, and if you have ever seen a cat kill something it is not a nice way to go. You are right that this is a very controversial area and you are entitled to your own views
Research using animals is rightly a very controlled activity and every effort its made to make sure the animals don’t suffer. Battery hen are kept in horrible conditions (always eat free range!). Animals are required for research in life saving drugs, so on balance I think that only when absoultly neccsary animal research is ok.
Let me know if you want anymore info, I hope this has helped.
Good question about why we use rats, I use them mainly because they are easy and cheap to keep, also they are bigger than mice so easier to dissect. I have never dissected a human body and cats kill 60 times more animals that are used in all the animal research in the UK.
somebody else doing it isnt better, NOBODY doing it is better. i know they are for the better but i still don’t believe you should just kill them, maybe treat them like an organ donor so when one dies you can look at it and test on it. I i hope more cats kill them than scientists becase it is in a cats nature to hunt, it is one of the reasons they have sharp teeth and claws!
If you could help it, would you still kill animals?
thanks for the info.
i have changed my opinion, i do not think it is fair to kill animals just to test makeup etc, but if my brother or sister or family member or anyone in the world was dying i would want you to test on the animals, sorry for giving you a hard time 🙂

Why do you choose rats for your research? Is there any particular reason???

Have you ever disected a human body and how many animals do you kill each year? Because cats must kill quite a lot! xxx
